Related Events during Stroll Weekend

SATURDAY, JUNE 7:

Brattleboro Museum & Art Center is offering free admission on Saturday, June 7th, in celebration of the Strolling of the Heifers. BMAC is bursting into bloom with Flora: A Celebration of Flowers in Contemporary Art with work by Bobbi Angell, Marta Bernbaum, Amber Cowan, Floyd Elzinga, Tom Fels, Janet Fish, Richard Jacobs, Robert Kushner, Tanya Marcuse, Nan Montgomery, Anne Morgan Spalter, Christina Stahr, and Jimmy Wright. Other exhibits include: All the Days of the Year, a video installation by Walter Ungerer recording one year as seen from Mount Battie, Maine; Cloaked and Revealed: Sculptural Paintings by Marela Zacarias; and Opposing Forces: New Paintings by John Gibson

A staged reading of the critically-acclaimed one-man play, Pierce to the Soul, on Saturday, June 7 at 7:30pm. at Next Stage, 15 Kimball Hill in Putney. Tickets are $10 suggested donation, available at the door. (This event was rescheduled from its original Black History month February date due to weather.) Pierce to the Soul tells the story of Elijah Pierce, a barber, preacher and a folk artist of no small significance. Playwright Chiquita Mullins Lee will also perform the piece at Next Stage presentation. Says Mullins Lee, “What I wanted to capture about Pierce, the son of a former Mississippi slave who migrated north and settled in Columbus, though, was his “wholeness as a person.”
