Internship opportunities with Strolling of the Heifers

Strolling of the Heifers, based in Brattleboro, VT, seeks interns to work with our staff on several of our signature projects. Full or part-time internships are available.

Strolling of the Heifers was founded in 2001 with the goal of helping to sustain family farms by connecting people with healthy local food. It does this most visibly during Strolling of the Heifers Weekend, annually in June, featuring a world-famous agriculturally themed parade, an all-day sustainable living festival, a cycling tour and other events. Annually, Strolling of the Heifers also presents the Slow Living Summit, a conference in Brattleboro focused on sustainable economies, communities, and policies; Windham Grows, which encourages and supports the growth of the small business economy; and the Locavore Index, an annual ranking of the 50 states in terms of their commitment to healthy local food. We also run many events at our home in downtown Brattleboro — which will entail exhibits and events related to locavorism, regional agriculture and food systems.

Over the years we have also nurtured farm-to-school programs, school gardens and other farm-related educational efforts that bring farmers to schools and students to farms; helped launch a New England farm microloan fund program and presently run a Farm to Table Apprenticeship Program that provides skills in nutrition and culinary skills.  Further information at

Interns may work on one or more of the following projects:

  • Volunteer coordination
  • Promotion development work with Windham Grows
  • Slow Living Summit marketing and outreach
  • Strolling of the Heifers Weekend marketing work and planning
  • Assistance with Stroll, Farm to Table and Windham Grows fundraising

These internships offer a chance to work with a strong and vibrant locally-grounded non-profit that continues to diversify in its effort to celebrate farmers, strengthen local food systems and encourage consumers to seek out local food.
