Strolling of the Heifers Parade
7 June, 2014 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 amFree
Celebrating family farmers, local food and rural life!
The world-famous Strolling of the Heifers Parade is the centerpiece of Stroll Weekend, June 6-8, 2014. Although inspired by Spain’s Running of the Bulls, the Stroll is just the opposite: a parade of friendly, ambling heifer calves, groomed to the nines, colorfully bedecked with hats and flowers, and led by future farmers from area schools and 4H club members.
This year’s theme: “The Heifers are Coming to Town!” Listen to the song! Look for hipster heifers! Celebrate with us the launch of our Farm/Food Education Center at the River Garden, where Strolling of the Heifers will be in Town all year!

The heifer contingent — up to 100 in number — leads the parade. Then come a variety of other farm animals — horses, mules, oxen, and sometimes goats, pigs, chickens, llamas and alpacas, followed by tractors, clowns, floats and bands.
Come early, stake out a good viewing spot, and enjoy historic downtown Brattleboro! Merchants and eateries open their doors early on Parade day.
There’s a great organic breakfast served up starting at 7 a.m. by Pete & Gerry’s Organic Eggs on the Brattleboro Common, and other vendors and exhibitors on the Common and Retreat grounds are ready for you by 9 a.m.
Enjoy pre-parade entertainment along the parade route starting about 9 a.m. The Parade itself starts on Flat Street at 10 a.m. sharp (Sat., June 7, 2014), and the heifers are first in the order of march — so don’t be late, or you might miss them!
When it’s over, the entire crowd follows the Parade up Main Street to theSlow Living Expofor a full day of food, fun, entertainment, exhibits and activities. Join us there, too!
