Chair yoga is a gentle form of yoga that is practiced sitting on a chair, or standing using a chair for support. No special clothing attire or yoga mat is needed. If you have limited mobility, the challenge of attending a yoga class can begin before you even attempt your first pose. Lowering yourself safely to your mat on the floor can be difficult, but it likely isn’t as hard to sit on a chair. Chair yoga participants typically use armless chairs, which allow them to turn their bodies and freely move their arms to achieve a variety of poses.
