Ecopsychology: The Human Psyche with the Earth in Mind (title/description may change)
19 December, 2017 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Regardless of who we think we are at this moment, in essence we’re all ancestors of peoples and cultures that once had a profound kinship with the more-than-human world. However, right now we are living at a time of unspeakable ecological disconnection and disruption. And consequently, perhaps now more than ever it’s time to more deeply search for who we are in relationship to the Earth and all its inhabitants.
Come explore a broad overview the work of ecopsychology, a cognitive and somatic approach that deeply considers our relationships to the ecological and social worlds we inhabit, as well as the ways in which the technological, industrial worldview is redefining who we are and perhaps even hacking into our status as human beings.
Should the other-than-human world have rights – rivers, mountains, a trees, animals? If so, what does that mean for us. How do we hold the ecological losses we are witnessing? Where do these losses turn up in us emotionally and behaviorally? Why is psychology as well as most forms of therapy virtually mute about the ecological realities we face? How can we stay grounded enough in this turbulence to effectively bring our own unique skills and medicine to the world?
Come bring yourself, your body and your ecological and social intelligence. Be prepared for a vital discussion. With Dave Cohen.
