Democracy Forum: “Restorative Justice in the Age of Trump”
19 July, 2017 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pmFree
With the election of Donald Trump, troubling values that we would like to believe are antithetical to America are seeping to the surface of our collective consciousness: greed, arrogance, intolerance, lack of empathy and a propensity to embrace violence as a solution to our problems. Restorative practices are an antidote for many of these behaviors that threaten to further unravel our societal fabric, tattered as it is. Rather than isolate ourselves into silos of people who think and look like we do, we need to work together to understand fully why we are facing such difficulties and why people make bad decisions that create conflict for themselves and others. Presenter: Dan DeWalt. Dan is a musician, woodworker, and teacher who is interested in social justice and having a country that honors its Constitution. He was one of the founders of the “The Commons” and is the founder and president of Restorative Community Justice of Southern Vermont. He has worked with restorative justice for the past six years or so. RCJ is an organization of dedicated local residents who volunteer their time to introduce and provide restorative practices to the community.
