Brown Bag Series: Zapotec weaving culture: shining light into the industrial production and consumption system

2 December, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Dr. Samuel Bautista Lazo will present the history of the weaving heritage of his people, the Benizaa (Zapotecs) that have been inhabiting the Central Valley of Oaxaca since probably 20,000 years ago. The Benizaa people developed a deep understanding of the land, the cosmos and the human spirit; this knowledge survived encrypted into the patterns and symbols woven in their textiles. Samuel will use his weaving background to explore ideas to improve the current production & consumption system. Specialty weaving’s will be available for purchase after his presentation.
