4 August, 2018 @ 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Carol Stephens has been involved in the arts throughout her career; in the graphic arts, illustration, heraldry, teaching, and book design. After retirement she returned to her first love, painting. She has successfully shown her works in Oil, Pastel and Acrylic paintings throughout Southern Vermont in both solo and group shows. She is a member of the Vermont Pastel Society, the Southern Vermont Pastel Society, and the Southern Vermont Arts Center in Manchester Vermont. She continues her education and experimentation at the River Gallery School in Brattleboro.
She graduated from the Arts College of Syracuse University, and studied further at Pratt Institute and NYU while working for Norcross Greeting cards and then as Assistant Art Director for William Morrow book publishers in NYC where she also illustrated and designed jackets. After moving to VT to work in the ski industry, then later as an artist for a heraldry company, she free-lanced as a graphic designer, and a book designer for Irving Perkins Book Design. Carol resides and paints in Brattleboro, Vt.
Sandra Cunningham arrived in Vermont in the late 70’s with family ties to the area going back several generations. She majored in Fine Arts at the University of NH, and Franklin Pierce College, then graduated from Marlboro College with a degree in Anthropology. In 2003 she attended Upper Valley Educators Institute and became a teacher certified in grades K-8. As an educator, she has taught in K-12 classrooms in Vermont, the Dominican Republic and Nepal. She is currently employed as an ELL teacher and is working towards a teaching endorsement in this field.
Sandra is an active outdoor person who appreciates the Vermont landscape which has inspired her artistry. She is especially attracted to the cold beauty of winter and spends as much time as possible snowboarding and hiking in this favorite season. She is also interested in perfecting the imagery of clouds something she feels may take years. While she considers herself an amateur, this show has inspired her to create more time in her life to paint and redevelop her skills and talents as an artist.
