Lucas Farrell & Louisa Conrad of Big Picture Farm — winners of our 2011 Competition, and gold medalists (for best confection) at the 2012 sofi Summer Fancy Food Show

Our Farm/Food Business Plan Competition spurs innovation and entrepreneurship at family farms, specialty food producers, restaurants and other food enterprises throughout Vermont. Launched in 2011 as a southeastern Vermont regional program (in partnership with the Brattleboro Development Credit Corporation), the competition expanded to central Vermont in 2012 in partnership with Vermont Technical College, and went statewide in 2013. No competition took place in 2014. In 2015, with support from the Windham County Economic Development Program, we held the Windham Regional Business Planning Competition in partnership with the Brattleboro Development Credit Corporation, and awarded $64,000 in prizes to 20 finalists in Farm/Food and General Business categories.

We’re proud of the success that our past winners have had in improving and expanding their businesses. Altogether, since 2006, the Stroll/BDCC competitions have awarded prizes to 110 finalists. About 80% of those are still in business, and collectively they employ some 300 people — and growing.
